Florida National Sweeps First CAC Cross Country Weekly Awards

Florida National University sophomores Mario Martinez and Mia Betancourt have opened the 2024 season by receiving the Continental Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week awards.

Martinez, the Men's Runner of the Week, was six seconds off his personal best time last Friday at the season-opening Florida Atlantic University Invitational, a meet featuring a majority of NCAA Division I and Division II teams. He finished 57th with a time of 17:55 across the 5-kilometer course.

Betancourt, the Women's Runner of the Week, also competed in the women's FAU Invitational, finishing 69th with a time of 26:37.3 across 5 kilometers. The meet featured such programs as Florida Gulf Coast University, Nova Southeastern University (Florida) and Florida International University.
