Trio Share CAC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Awards

Student-athletes from opposite coasts have been honored with Continental Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week awards.

Carolina University (North Carolina) junior SarahElizabeth Samuels and freshman Kai Horta joined Westcliff University (California) senior Amanda Ferreira in leading their teams to undefeated weeks on the court last week.

Samuels, the Attacker of the Week, had a dominant week at the net for the Bruins across four matches. She recorded 41 kills and averaged 3.42 kills per set during the week. The San Antonio, Texas, native posted an efficient .372 hitting percentage. Samuels contributed on both sides of the ball with four blocks and seven digs to account for 43.5 total points.

Horta, the Defender of the Week, put together an outstanding defensive performance across four matches. She finished with 59 digs and averaged an impressive 4.92 digs across 12 sets. The Miami native delivered eight service aces and contributed 17 assists. Horta handled 76 total receptions for the week.

Ferreira, the Setter of the Week, had 57 assists to lead the Warriors to two victories last week. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native had 38 assists in a 3-1 win against Occidental University (California) last Wednesday. She served four aces in the late stages of the third set as Westcliff rallied from a 24-21 deficit to win the set by a 26-24 score. Ferreria averaged 8.14 assists per set for the week.
